Creative Courant: Newsletter #37

Happy 2021! I’m back after a two week break, which I wasn’t exactly planning on taking. The first week I was deep into chilling out and resting with my family and last week’s insurrection at the Capitol had me glued to the news.

We are barely a week into 2021 and we’re in the midst of what looks like a second impeachment of 45 and we are all trying to make sense of the news that is unfolding by the hour.

As I write this we are on day 304 since the initial shutdown due to COVID-pandemic. Fatigue is rearing its ugly head and the gray days of winter plod on. We are reaching a time that is ultra-challenging. Like the last part of a marathon, your headspace is the most important thing to nurture right now.

This morning I led a virtual, weekly planning session with the Soul Planner that I co-authored and participants were offering ideas for soothing activities: coloring in an adult coloring book (yes!), creating vision boards, decluttering and painting. For me, I’ve discovered a bewildering, urgent need to paint the walls and woodwork in my home. I’ve spent hours painting intricate millwork that would usually try my patience, but for some reason feels like just the right thing to be doing. I have several watercolors in process and a few other projects that are in the works.

Below are some articles to help you focus on calm, create a soothing physical environment and how to kick-start your creativity.

Stay calm, healthy and safe.

Suzanne
